Laudemio Frescobaldi is the extra virgin olive oil of the Tuscan Frescobaldi family. The name goes back to the Middle Ages, when the laudemio was the finest share of the harvest, kept for the lord of the land. The family launched the brand in 1986, after the frost of 1985 froze 90 percent of Tuscany's olive groves, and the first harvest came in 1989. Today about twenty Tuscan estates use the Laudemio name, each for its own oil.
The family farms about 300 hectares of olive groves at 200 to 500 metres above sea level. The olives are picked early, in October or November, as they turn from green to purple, and are milled within a few hours at the family's mill at Castello Nipozzano. The label shows an Etruscan athlete, the brand's emblem.
