Stara Sokolova was founded in 1995 by Radisav Bogdanović, who drew on family rakija recipes handed down from an ancestor, Sava Bogdanović. The rakija is made in the Krivaja valley, on Spasovik hill near Užice.
It is distilled from native plum varieties of the Krivaja valley, and the first release was a rakija aged twelve years in the barrel. The range now runs to more than 14 products, including a walnut liqueur, Orahovača, and around 70% of production is exported to the Balkans, Western Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, Russia and the Middle East.
